Groundsman / Gardener

Groundsman / Gardener wanted for 24 hours per week. Hours 7:30am – 4:00pm, 3 x days per week.

Days of work to be negotiated with the Property Manager at least one week in advance.

To commence as soon as possible.

Papakura High School is looking for a Gardener with suitable experience and skills to join the busy Property Management Team.

This is a part time, permanent position. Hours of work 7:30am – 4pm, three days per week. Days of work to be negotiated with the Property Manager at least one week in advance.

We are looking for a passionate, reliable, hardworking experienced gardener/horticulturalist to maintain and enhance our extensive school gardens. You will be responsible for ensuring the garden areas remain in top condition throughout the year.

Key responsibilities:

  • Soil & Health: weeding, mulching and basic pest/disease identification and control
  • Detailed plant care: Pruning, hedge trimming, deadheading and seasonal plant maintenance
  • Landscaping: Assisting with planting schemes and minor hardscaping where required

Attributes:

  • Proven experience: Minimum of 2 – 3 years professional gardening or landscaping
  • Technical knowledge: Strong understanding of plant selection, soil health & seasonal requirements
  • Physical fitness: Ability to handle daily outdoor manual labour in all weather conditions
  • Reliability: A self-starter with a “superstar” work ethic and good communication skills
  • Equipment skills: Confirdent operating a variety of petrol-driven garden maintenance machinery e.g. line and hedge trimmers, blowers and vacs etc
  • A team player who can work within the property team and a willingness to buy into the team philosophy, ‘making the school’s physical environment the best it can be so that students thrive’.

On occasions when asked, assist other members of the property team with special event preparation on site and cover the daily rubbish duty if the Caretaker is absent. Any other school facility tasks as/when required.

All appropriate personal Health and Safety equipment is provided with the role.

The successful applicant will be subject to a Police Vetting check which must return a satisfactory result.
